Landscape Architect

Restoration Resources is seeking highly motivated self-starters, with the ability to multi-task and meet critical deadlines as well as direct others in an efficient manner. The selected candidates will also lead in the production of graphic/CAD design products prepared by the company.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and/or oversee development of schematic designs, construction plans and details in CAD and cost estimates for projects
  • Prepare and/or oversee the creation of maps in ArcMap 9.0
  • Create and render hand drawings and sketches
  • Compile existing construction specifications into format suitable for re-use
  • Enhance and improve CAD production
  • Conduct field visits for the purpose of assessing existing site conditions and developing habitat enhancement concepts
  • Oversee the work of consulting and design staff involved in project activities; coordinate and monitor the work of subcontractors, track project billing and budgets, assist with staff schedules and, ensure effective client relations, as appropriate to the project
  • Monitor construction progress through on-site inspection and review
  • Track and coordinate project progress and costs; review and assist in the approval of construction estimates, change orders and proposals, and other contract documents
Required Skills:
  • Solid written and oral communication skills. The ability to present effectively to small and large groups is a desired additional trait
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, CAD, ArcMap 9.0
  • Solid overall knowledge of landscaping, grading, and irrigation techniques
  • Ability to prepare and interpret work plans
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Knowledge of construction project budgeting and cost estimating principles
  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools
  • Understanding of major institutional landscape design and construction principles, methods, and techniques
Education/Training:
  • BA/BS in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Geography, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Landscape Architect or Civil Engineers license preferred
  • 2+ years design work experience preferred (internship may qualify)
  • Experience in native habitat restoration preferred
  • Knowledge of California native flora and basic ecological principals preferred
  • Experience in Project Management preferred
  • Database management experiences a plus
  • Experience with billing and budget management preferred
Other Requirements:
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license with insurable DMV record
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.

Wage Range: Dependent upon experience / Competitive wages / Bonus potential

Landscape Habitat Designer

The Landscape and Habitat Designer assists in the production of graphic/CAD design products for various ecological restoration and mitigation projects which will be constructed by our Habitat Construction Department. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our Environmental Consulting & Design Department and will help create small and very large-scale native habitat mitigation/restoration projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops schematic designs, construction plans and details in AutoCAD
  • Create maps in ArcMap 9.0
  • Create and render hand drawings and sketches

Restoration Ecologist
Restoration Resources is currently looking for a Restoration Ecologist to work in our Consulting & Design Department. This is a highly skilled position requiring a well-rounded applicant with knowledge of ecology and environmental resource issues, as well as the capacity for assisting with and/or managing highly varied projects. The candidate will perform a broad range of tasks, including assessment of sites for restoration potential, preparation of native habitat restoration design and reports, creation of planting palettes and seed mixes, and field layout of restoration plans. The position includes a large writing component, including technical specifications for restoration projects, habitat development plans, monitoring reports, permit applications and agency correspondence, and proposals for new projects and clients. The successful applicant must have the ability to communicate effectively with clients, project supervisors, and designers and be able to perform outdoor work activities year-round in varying weather conditions. Some projects may require out-of-town/overnight stays. Familiarity with a variety of California habitats is a plus. Individuals with a strong background in soil science and its application to restoration projects are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide expertise on California native habitat ecology and restoration design and techniques
  • Conduct natural resource surveys and assessments
  • Assist with the design and layout of habitat restoration projects
  • Technical report writing, including habitat development plans and monitoring reports
  • Advise and make recommendations for native plant palettes and seed mixes
  • Prepare best management practices for SWPPP
  • Monitor restoration projects for success
  • Communicate regularly with clients and agencies
  • Assist with project management including proposal preparation, cost estimating, budgeting, billing, and scheduling tasks to be completed
Required Skills/Training
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of California native plant and wildlife species and their habitats
  • Working knowledge of soils, hydrology, and ecology
  • Working knowledge of habitat restoration concepts and techniques
  • Project management skills (i.e. organize tasks, give and take direction, budgeting)
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Word & Excel
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, work plans and blue prints
Highly Desired Skills:
  • Experience with soil sampling and analysis
  • Experience with construction of habitat restoration projects
  • Experience with wetland delineations
  • Experience with statistical analysis
  • Experience with GPS, ArcView, AutoCAD a plus
Education/Training:
  • Degree in Ecology, Botany, Soils, or related field required, M.S. preferred
  • 2+ years experience

Restoration Laborer - Irrigation / Planting / Habitat Maintenance
This is an entry-level position into the exciting, emerging field of habitat restoration. The successful applicant must be able to perform manual labor activities outdoors, all seasons of the year in varying weather conditions. The applicant must be flexible and able to perform a wide range of landscape related physical tasks. Some projects may require out-of-town/overnight stays. We provide on-the-job training in our proven techniques and encourage employees to learn and grow with the company.
Responsibilities: include but not limited to:
  • Carry pumps to P.O.C. & hook up, start and operate
  • Hand-water plants, build water retention basins
  • Install container plants, collect / install cuttings, marsh plugs
  • Install mulch, plant protection screens / tubes
  • Pull weeds
  • Operate string trimmer (with instruction)
  • Assist with irrigation installation
Required Skills:
  • Ability to perform manual labor
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Able to follow direction
  • Operate small equipment
Education/Training:
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • No experience needed, similar job experience preferred
Other Requirements:
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license with insurable DMV record
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.

Wage Range: $8.00 to $12.00 per hour dependent upon experience
